An excerpt :  A day after President Donald Trump issued an executive order allowing truckers to purchase red dye diesel tax-free, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association said the measure was not enough. 

“Truckers are feeling the pain at the pump. Every $1 increase per gallon in fuel costs our members around $400 more per week, and sustained high prices will put many truck drivers out of business,” said OOIDA President and CEO Todd Spencer. Meanwhile, oil executives pad their profits while working families struggle.” 

Spencer continued: “Consumers also pay the price. Roughly 70% of domestic freight moves exclusively by truck, and the cost of fuel ultimately gets passed on. OOIDA believes allowing the wider use of red-dyed diesel will provide minimal relief. Market stability is essential to bring down costs for the long haul.”

Trump said the order will save the typical trucker more than $100 each time they fill their tanks and lower the cost of other goods, including groceries.

However, Henry Hanscom, chief advocacy and public affairs officer at the American Trucking Associations, told Politico that dyed diesel does not create additional supply or address the supply crunch that has driven prices up.

An excerpt :  The Toronto-based company  announced its AI-powered driving system, the Waabi Driver, was successfully integrated onto a Volvo VNL Autonomous truck developed by Volvo Autonomous Solutions.

According to the company, the system operated autonomously on both highways and surface streets from its first mile without requiring new real-world data, simulation data, fine-tuning or software modifications.

Waabi founder and CEO Raquel Urtasun said the demonstration represents more than an autonomous trucking milestone.

“For the first time in the industry, we have shown that a virtual driver can generalize across fundamentally different embodiments without requiring a single training example — neither real or simulated — or fine-tuning,” she said. “This capability has the potential to transform far more than transportation.”
