Palantir  (Peter Thiel)  ..  (ref: Wikipedia) . . .

An excerpt:  Thiel enrolled in Stanford Law School and earned his juris doctor degree in 1992.[30]

While at Stanford, Thiel met René Girard, whose mimetic theory influenced him.[31][32]

In Girard's honour, he has established the Imitatio project (part of the philanthropic Thiel Foundation), which aims to "supports research, education, and publications building on Rene Girard’s mimetic theory."[33] Thiel expressed the hope that by 2100, his teacher would be known as one of the great intellectuals of the 21st century.

Mimetic theory, developed by René Girard, proposes that human desire is fundamentally imitative, or "mimetic"This means that we don't desire things independently, but rather we learn to desire them by observing and imitating the desires of others, often referred to as "models". This imitation can lead to rivalry and conflict as individuals compete for the same objects of desire.
Here's a more detailed explanation of 'mimetic theory': (ref: google A.I)

  • Mimetic Desire:
Girard argues that our desires are not inherent or spontaneous, but rather learned through imitation. We see someone desire something and then start desiring it ourselves, not necessarily because of the inherent qualities of the object, but because someone else desires it.
  • Triangular Desire:
This mimetic desire is often described as triangular, involving the subject (the person desiring), the model (the person being imitated), and the object of desire.
  • Rivalry and Conflict:
When multiple individuals imitate the same model and desire the same object, rivalry and conflict can arise as they compete for that object.

  • Scapegoat Mechanism:
Girard's theory also includes the "scapegoat mechanism," which is a way that communities attempt to resolve mimetic conflict. When rivalry becomes intense, the group may unify by collectively blaming and ostracizing a single individual (the scapegoat), even if that individual is not solely responsible for the conflict.
  • Examples:
Mimetic theory can be seen in various aspects of life, from children imitating their parents - to adults striving for social status and material possessions.

  • Influence:
Girard's work has been influential in various fields, including literary criticism, anthropology, and theology, offering insights into the nature of human desire, conflict, and social structures.

Palantir (ref: Peter Thiel  - Wikipedia)

An excerpt:  In May 2003, Thiel incorporated Palantir Technologies, a big data analysis company named after the Tolkien artifact.[52] He continues as its chairman, as of 2022.[53][9] Thiel stated that the idea for the company was based on the realization that "the approaches that PayPal had used to fight fraud could be extended into other contexts, like fighting terrorism". He also stated that, after the September 11 attacks, the debate in the United States was "will we have more security with less privacy or less security with more privacy?".

He envisioned Palantir as providing data mining services to government intelligence agencies that were maximally unintrusive and traceable.[54][55]

Palantir's first backer was the Central Intelligence Agency's venture capital arm In-Q-Tel. The company steadily grew and in 2015 was valued at $20 billion, with Thiel being the company's largest shareholder.

But, there are a lot of good people with integrity - still to be found in this reality -  &  I found one . . .
